as seen on TV. the “rocket” fishing rod”

Well I thought I had seen all the wacky fishing gizmo infomercials until this advertisement popped up on my television tonight. “Fogo Sports” (http://www.fogosports.com) designed a pump action fishing rod which will cast at a distance of up to 30ft; safely and accurately.

The “device” looks like a Nerf toy modeled around a sawed off shotgun. For only $29.95 you’ll get a “rocket fishing rod“. Indeed a pretty good idea, If my son was older I would think about purchasing one for him. Anyway, check it out at http://www.rocketfishingrod.com. Not the best site, doesn’t really have much infor except for what is on the main index with a video clip of it in action. What will they think of next?

new photoblog…

I’ve created a photoblog at http://www.photoblog.com/tefuzz. Feel free to check it out. There’s only 2 photo’s there right now…Not great ones, just some photo’s I had taken while on a trip to GA to get the photoblog started. Now I need to start taking some pictures more often, and hone my skills a little bit.

Also, I say sign up for one. They are free, and unlimited. It’s a pretty fun concept.

revive your .PSD thumbnails in Windows Explorer

This is an old trick, but since I recently formatted my drives and started with a clean install of Windows XP, I no longer had the ability to view .PSD thumbnails within Windows Explorer without the use of third party software. Not that the third party thumbnail viewers are bad, but it’s easier to view them while passing through in Windows Explorer rather then opening a secondary application.

The reason behind the missing .DLL? Well that’s simple. Removing the .DLL enabled Adobe to persuade you to using Adobe products such as bridge, or lightroom to view thumbnails of Adobe files. So in short, if you’ve got Adobe Photoshop CS or above and you can’t see your thumbnails through Windows Explorer, here’s a small .rar file for you to download. Instructions are included on what to do to make it work. Oh, BTW this .rar includes both .PSD and .AI thumbnail fixes.

It is however, recommended that you set a system restore point before you attempt the fix since this does edit some registry values, and we all know that editing the registry even in a seemingly simple way could cause a butterfly effect and end up being bad news.

Photography Tip – The rule of Thirds

Well, as a somewhat photography nut myself (although I hardly take any pictures, i leave that to my wife) I sometimes find myself surfing around looking for good articles or tutorials. I came across this on one of my favorite reads http://www.dubtastic.com It’s an article about photo composition and the use of thirds within your photos. It’s a very short article, but it does point out the proper use of aligning objects (or people) in your photos for the best overall effect. A small excerpt from the article, followed by the link.

“…This was programmed into my head as an art student and I am glad that my professor took the time to explain it. Many creations are by general definition, wonderful, yet they suffer because of poor composition. It is not always necessary to center-align your image/focal point…”

Rapidshare – bypassing the download limit

I know many people use rapidshare for many different reasons. Of course, the biggest reason is for downloading software which shouldn’t be shared. But, there are I’m sure those of you who use it for real reasons. Of course if you want to download some rather large files, or just a large number of smaller files without paying a monthly service fee, you will be stopped and told to wait for a certain time period. Sometimes over three hours. But wait! There’s a fix for this.

You see, Rapidshare logs your IP address, and the information about the file you are downloading to determine how much usage you have left before you must wait. Well, the simple solution is to log on to rapidshare with a different IP address. Sounds easy enough right? Well, yes it actually is. Here’s the short tutorial I found at http://www.blogiseverything.com It only takes about thirty seconds to complete and for me has worked like a charm. I tested it downloading a collection of files a few times over which set off the meter and told me I had to wait. I followed the instructions, and voila I was right back on track in under a minute…Here’s the tutorial: [please note, these steps vary from the original, I edited the wording somewhat for ease of reading]

To start, if you use a router, unplug it and connect your cable modem directly to your computer…

1. Open up the command prompt: Start -> Run; Type in CMD and hit enter
2. In the command prompt, type “ipconfig/all” and hit enter. This will show your current IP. Then, type “ipconfig/release” and hit enter. Keep the command prompt open; we will need it.

3. Go to “Network Connections” (accessible through the control panel). Right click “Local Area Connection” and click “Properties”

4. With “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selected, click the “Properties” button.

5. A new window will open. Under the “General” tab, select “Use the Following IP address”. Under “Ip Address”, put “10.0.0.1″. Press the “Tab” key on your keyboard. (this will enter 255.0.0.0 in the default)

6. Press Ok on BOTH open windows.

7. Repeat steps 3-4. Then, Under the “General” tab, press the radio button “Obtain an IP address automatically”. Press ok on BOTH windows.

8. Go back to the command prompt and type in “Ipconfig/all”. You’ll now notice you have a new IP address.

So, this will be handy if you want to by-pass Rapidshare 1 hour download limit, provided that you have a static IP address. [i however do not have a static IP, and this still works]

Now, I have done this several times over, and I have noticed that you do not have to follow Step # 7 fully. I have done this trick without repeating steps 3 and 4 before selecting “assign me an IP automatically”. Not that I want to confuse anyone, I just gave it a shot without repeating those steps with success as well. Let me know if you got it to work, or why you couldn’t and maybe I can help.

Atreyu – lead sails paper anchor (2007)

Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor Well, it’s a little late but Atreyu’s new album released last week and I am very impressed. This could be my favorite album yet. It’s a different style for Atreyu which I’m very pleased with and I give it a 9/10. However, I am a little upset that the album is again on the short side. But all in all I’ve been listening to it non stop for over a week. Favorite song for me is track five [When two are one]. If you’re into Atreyu, don’t miss this release.
